Vernon Wells keeps track of everything that goes on in baseball. So on Sunday afternoon, shortly after checking out of his first spring game, he had already found out that Curtis Granderson would miss 10 weeks with a broken forearm, that the Yankees may be looking for another outfielder and that, naturally, his name would be thrown around.

When I read things like this, I can't help but root for Wells to do well. He says all the right things, he isn't demanding playing time or to be traded, and he puts the onus on himself to earn the opportunity. I can't say that I'm thrilled that he is on the roster, but if you are stuck with a player it might as well be one with a positive attitude.

I have to agree with you except for the fact that I'm happy he's on the roster. This isn't to be confused with the idea that I'm happy with his contract. Outfield depth is questionable this season ... if Wells can somehow find his stroke again he could be the dark horse of the season.

im not a big wells fan but i gotta give him credit for yesterday....in addition to the knock he popped up (shocker) and made it all the way to 3rd on an error, great hustle.

I'm not expecting much at all from wells but at least he is going about this situation a hell of a lot better than bobby abreu did last season
