Actually, the best solution would be to grant them all the same rights as any other citizen of the U.S. has.  Then, if they want to be independent, they can vote that way themselves.

First, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam folks are already citizens.  They just they don't have the same rights.

 

This is basically what England did to the colonists.  I guess that is ok with you.

That was my thought as I watched the segment. The Revolution occurred for many reasons, but this exact issue was one of them.
