Bill Hicks: I can't say I disagree with many of his ideologies, but he wasn't funny in the slightest. 
 

Dane Cook: I was ambivalent about him until I heard an interview of his on Joe Rogan's podcast. He might be the most self-important, douchey person in comedy.

I also like the Three Stooges, Abbott and Costello, Laurel and Hardy and the Marx Bros. They were more of the vaudeville variety of comedians not stand up but some very hysterical skits.

I confined my answer to living comedians, but of those who have passed on George Carlin belongs on the list, as does Richard Pryor. I saw a Robin Williams HBO special that left me in stitches.

For my 21st  Birthday, I went to vegas and saw George Burns at Caesars. He was pushing 100, but was very very funny. HE was kind of a hero of mine.

Yeah, he returned in 2012 (I think) from a year-long hiatus. The interview in question was basically him disparaging TJ Miller who had criticized Cook for bumping other comedians at The Laugh Factory and insulting audience members. Now I understand why everyone in comedy hates the guy.

Dane Cook is a rip off artist when it comes to his routine.  Not funny at all to me.  

 

Another guy I really enjoy is Kevin Pollack.  You can't see him more than twice though because he rarely changes his material.

i saw kevin pollack at the ice house in pasadena. funny stuff. but yeah, once his acting career took off, his comedy stuff really took a dive.

 

going really old school, i think bob hope deserves a mention here. milton berle probably does, too.
