Trading Cron and Shoemaker

Recommended Posts

Cron and Shoemaker are both exceeding the general consensus from scouts. That means they are premium trade bait. Sell high. Particularly to a team that doesn't understand regression or becomes deluded enough to think expectations could be even higher.

We need relief pitching. We don't even need premium relief pitching. I think Jerry is shopping these guys pretty hard Probably Green too.

Don't get attached.

My first response was, this dude is crazy.

But on second thought, I see his point. Despite his success, Cron's OBP is only .310. Dude has no plate discipline. There's a good chance he could become Trumbo 2.0 but with even less of a glove.

The Angels need Shoemaker right now, but he is pitching way over his head. Look at his numbers in AAA. He's never had an ERA lower than 4.64 or WHIP lower than 1.31 with Salt Lake.

there is nothing about Crons' numbers that scream regression.  He might slump at some point, but I expect him to be somewhere around where he is right now as a major leaguer.  Maybe even better.  He's a cost controlled power hitter with poor on base skills and solid contact ability for a guy with his pop.  He's not going anywhere

Shoemaker should have gotten a shot a long time ago.  At least early last year.  His stuff was a horrible match for SLC.  His best pitch - the splitter/change - did not split nor change at high altitude.

Take hold of this - it's the value of his splitter/change per 100 pitches. PFG

He's not going anywhere.

even if you back out Shoemaker's stats to his peripherals and take into account some serious park factor issues, it's still not a fair assessment.  The guy's best pitch was stolen from him by that park.
