Trading Cron and Shoemaker

Compared to Blanton and Hanson that is quality pitcher. Also ERA were inflated during Ortiz time.

Many on this board seem to think Cron's sample size so far is an indication of how he will hit whilst under team control. It's not.

If you can land a key addition that has a decent contract through at least the 2015 season you must consider parting with Cron.

 

Anyone who thinks they know what to expect from Cron based on less than 500 plate appearances in the majors is likely jumping the gun, that goes for both people who like him and people who hate him.

Cron's minor league numbers are hard to gauge given the bulk of them came in two severe pitcher's parks and in many ways he was trying to come back from injuries for much of that time.  His own comments about not trying to pull anything and the sort while at AA are also an indication he was trinkering with things.   As far as his MLB performance to date goes, he's still in that introductory period where people are throwing him more fastballs than they likely would if they knew what he can and cannot do.  Early on he's showing the ability to pull softer stuff and go to all fields off harder pitches which is typically a good long term sign.   He's not likely to become an OBP machine, but he likely hits for a high enough average that his OBP may end up north of league average.  He's got some hacktastic ways to him but he's got some interesting tendencies as well.  

 

He's not untouchable, but he's not the sort of piece you move for a RP either.

Depending on how a person views quality he may or may not have been.  He was a near league average pitcher ERA+ of 99 while an Angel, so he wasn't completely useless.
