31 year old coming off back to back 5+ ERA seasons in AAA, including one in the much less hitter friendly International League last season.

 

I guess he is still breathing though, so he kind of constitutes depth....maybe...if you squint really hard?

Watched him a few years back in SF.  Much better than his numbers look.  Sort of reminded me of a Fausto Carmona type, or whatever name he's going by.

At a certain point, though, doesn't the old "much better than his numbers look" evaluation become meaningless?  If his "stuff" doesn't translate into performance, who cares how good his stuff is in isolation?

Completely agree and at the same time, the Halos seem like they're in the sort of position where they can pursue guys who pitch better than their numbers suggest and just stash those pitchers in AAA.

Guys like Joe Martinez seem like the sort that are a mechanical adjustment away from a Jerome Williams type career. At any rate, if the Angels are serious about jettisoning Blanton, they'll need to build that AAA depth. Shoemaker seems great for long relief, which would leave Martinez and LeBlanc.

Grabbing another couple pitchers like Joe Martinez can only help the present situation. Even if their numbers never catch up to the talent.
