Orioles were having a very weird offseason. It may be an overpay but they're going to compete in that division and Jimenez certainly helps that starting staff.

Anyone who would take Ervin Santana back for that contract and give up the 15th pick? I hate giving up first rounders, especially since they have done that a bunch lately. I hate it even more since they chose Joe Blanton over Santana last year, and would now have to give up a pick for a player who spent all but one season in Red. 

 

Most baseball mock drafts have us selecting a high school starting pitcher, someone who in all likelihood will not make the majors until 2017 at the earliest.

 

With Santana at the #3, and Richards at the #4, the Halos would suddenly have rotation depth.

 

Santana did have a bad year in 2012, good year in 2013, but also good years in 2010 and 2011. He may outpitch his peripherals, but he's a 3.0 WAR pitcher. 

 

He's going to give you 200+ innings, 30+ starts for the next few years.

I wonder if one plan is to wait the first 2 months until the 2014 draft, and then if a 5th pitcher is still needed and Erv is still available, would the Halos then offer a contract to him as they would then not need to give up a 1st round pick plus the amount may not be as much to sign him for.

Only problem with that is he would need 4-6 weeks to get ready, which takes us to around the ASB. 

 

Bear in mind though that re-acquisitions a lot of times don't work out.

Re-acquisitions have basically the same success rate as acquisitions from other teams. There are just as many examples of failures as successes.
