@MikeDiGiovanna @DaleTafoya I guess he hasn't seen the A's play this year. They lead the world in bunts.

Another dumbass A's fan. The A's have 11 successful bunts the entire season the Angels 17, tied with Cleveland, the Royals and one less than the Yankees.

The World Wide leader in bunts, at least in the AL? The Rangers with 21.

He went from a winning team with a great manager and a really good coaching staff.. to the Angels.

I would be angry too.

So what's your excuse for being angry all of the time?

Look, all this angst about bunting is pretty ridiculous. Bunting is a skill that can be used to a manager's advantage and having an infielder without power that can't perform to the situation is a liability. Any manager would be less than happy that an 8th pick of the draft went through the minors without even the basic level skills for situational hitting. It is on the player for either not learning the skill or refusing to learn.

Enough about that, bunting is simply a situational skill like making productive outs. The Angels this season are only 37% successful in a productive out while in 2002 they were 40% successful. (They also had 27 successful bunts that season.) All part of an offense package that could generate runs even when the MOTO bats have completed their turn in the lineup.

The most successful of the 2002 productive out squads was David Eckstein (55%), Darin Erstad (48%), Benjie Molina (41%) and Scott Speizio (42%).  These starters knew how to move a runner along when in a situation where they may not be able to do so because of the pitching matchup. They made good enough contact to at least stay out of a double play.

Move to this team and the productive outs came from Erik Aybar (55%), Alberto Callaspo (55%), JB Shuck (48%) and surprisingly Pujols (44%) with an honorable mention to Bourjos (59%). These numbers are based on opportunity and the number one guy in terms of opportunity (60 chances) was Hamilton (28%) and that is the tale of the season. Not even in failure can Josh redeem himself this year by at least making a productive out.

Do I want to see a predictive out? Oh heck no but last night with bases loaded and no outs a productive out wins the game. Simple situational hitting where the batter takes himself out of the stat equation for a hit and simply gets the job done. Something this team just isn't able to do.
