Thoughts on the reworked bullpen

You're not very good... And your talent level isn't very good either!

 

When you have starters going 5 inn will need many BP pieces ready. Succes for Angels this will depend on starters going deeper into games.

The reason in going to a 5 man rotation is getting on a regular regimen and working deeper in the game 5 innings become 6-7.

As it is if your starter can't go 5/6/7 innings they would be better served in long relief unless it takes them longer to comeback during the week after an extended outing which then goes back to training, ability, decelopment/coaching or scouting.

Ohtani and catering to him has placed Sandavol, Detmers, Suarez and Canning behind in their individual development and allowing them to work through their own messes which is called pitching.

The bullpen is well situated, at least to start. Injuries and fatigue will play a role in the makeup of any bullpen, so as long as the Angels get production from guys like Joyce and Bachman, they should have an excellent staff in 2024. 

And I think there's a couple benefits to this approach. 

1. It allows the Angels to limit their starters to five innings, or twice through the order. It limits damage, and preserves then for deeper into the season. 

2. If the Angels fall out of contention, that's a crap ton of projectable arms they could flip for prospects at the deadline, which could really alter the trajectory of the organization. 

So it's good in that regard. The only thing I don't like is that relievers are so inconsistent. It's hard to predict what they'll receive from any of them.
