Maybe misusing him by putting him in many different roles.   By the time he was just doing long innings work, he was already broken?

Truth.   And the main culprits were the starting pitchers who have been awful.

If only we had people in the dugout, something like a manager, or a coach, something like that, whose job it was to develop players and help them perform at a higher level.  But alas, we have a guy who is afraid of not being retained so he’s incapable of doing the work needed to improve performance.
