I think the commentators are confused. I’m guessing they’re saying Gosselin interfered not Stefanic. I have no clue what the rule is though on that when it’s a base runner.

The base runner cannot be in the field of play.  He has to be on the foul side of the line.

The batter interfered because the home plate umpire made the call.
