For me, it's all about winning championships.  The Angels have stunk for the last several years, but watching Trout & Ohtani keep me religiously tuning in...but it's a false sense of accomplishment when your team finishes below .500 but one of your players wins MVP.  I would trade anyone on the team if it were an obvious step toward long term competiveness.  I would also sign anyone long term if he were an obvious step toward long term competiveness.  But the Angels-- for years--have NOT demonstrated any acumen in player evaluation, development or acquisition.  We're still feeling the organizational setbacks from as far back as the Tony Reagins era ...So unless they involve a 3rd team and get the best obvious 'cant miss' prospects from each of those orgainizations in a trade, I try to sign him long term with the best offer you're willing to make-- no dicking around.  If he says no, I Juan Soto him as soon as I can before he suffers another injury.

How about $35 million base per season for 8 years max, and an extra $5 million anytime he reaches 162 innings?

Definitely need incentives and options on both sides.  Plus he needs to be the highest paid player on the team.

The problem is we have an owner that is somehow both a free spender (big name FA) but as cheap as hell (everything else pretty much). Until Arte is gone, I have little faith in this franchise. With this in mind, I guess I want them to pay Ohtani to at least have some form of entertainment going. That, and he's become a top 5 Angels favorite of all time for me.

Trout, Glaus, Vlad, Shohei. Ohtani would jump Vlad if he re-signed, probably Glaus too although he's the player that got me into the franchise back in the late 90s. Vlad was part of the best run we had of being competitive even if he wasn't on the '02 team. Trout will always be 1.

I guess with the explanation it doesn’t seem quite as nuts.

But for me it was pretty easy to dig Ohtani more than Glaus or Vlad.  Those are two of my favorites too, and I don’t feel any different  about them.  It’s just that Ohtani created a new spot on my list at the top, all by himself.

I don’t think I could like a player more than I like Ohtani.

Ohtani most talented player ever to play in MLB. Maybe only few more games as an Angel.
