Fangraphs - Jo Adell talks hitting

Recommended Posts

Im really bugged by his comments about the demotion though if im being honest.
Most saw it coming, and thought it was necessary.
Hes still super young, i dont think anyone thinks he wont be back, but lets be real... really poor defensive mechanics and the return of the k rate were not positives by any stretch.
He should have seen it coming.  These comments are not a good look in my view.

This is my issue with Adell. It's like it doesn't register with him that he's one of the worst left fielders in baseball and his K rate and lack of consistency in hitting isn't forcing us to keep him up and play him despite that. These things are obvious to literally everyone who watches him. But Adell? "Adell said his demotion came out of nowhere" and he "was shocked". 🤦🏻‍♂️

Sam Blum is a click baiting piece of crap

If you read the full article:

“From the outside it seems so devastating,” Adell said. “But it is not. It happens all the time. This game is different than it was years ago. Options are happening left and right. … I’m just going on business as usual and hopefully get back.”

Don’t ever trust Sam Blum. He’s a liar.

I know his defense is terrible in the majors, but didn't anyone see this as a problem in the minors?  It's not like the game is different for outfielders in AA or AAA.  We should know very well whether his defense was up to par already.

Did you notice his worst defensive mistakes came to start the season. He looked good in spring, nothing obviously terrible in the minor leagues, but when the big lights turned on he didn't perform. I have a feeling there is a significant mental component to this. He obviously isn't a naturally talented defender but his game seems to suffer when the pressure is on. I think he just needs to get comfortable.

We are good at drafting those type of Brandon Wood players.

Good point about Wood, but I never got that vibe from him while he was actually playing. Wood just couldn't hit a curve ball and ultimately stalled out at AA/AAA because of it. To be fair a high quality breaking ball would give me anxiety too.

Posting parts of an interview in a misleading way? Ok. I remember you’re the guy that likes to argue about bullshit.

In his own words... "came out of nowhere" and "dont know whats left to show"... but yeah, thats bullshit im sure.
Is there ANY content those comments make sense?  I dont see one.
whats left is obvious to anyone that can read a stat page... but sure be a dick and make it personal.

Read a stat page?  He got sent down for being 5% below league average offensively, while playing poor defense and playing sporadically

The tweet paints a much different picture than the article. When I originally read the tweet, I became slightly alarmed—then I realized who had posted it, actually read the article, and went on my merry way.

Really?  Brandon Wood admitted he couldn't take the pressure.

One has zero to do with the other. It was 5 GMs ago?  One player excelled defensively the other doesn’t. The difference offensively is notable as well.
