I'm guessing Norman is worth close to 1/2 a billion dollars.

I think he'll be ok.

i was thinking more about the hit his public image would take, not his wallet.

norman just sounds more bitter as he gets older and older.

When was the last time you even thought about Norman?

He's basically irrelevant.

i think about him every year at the masters and his epic meltdown on sunday.

you know why that happened? bad juju - he stiffed me for an autograph at the '95 pga at riviera the year before, and that was the price he had to pay for treating the tanker like a casual fan.

Damn.

I hear Australia is nice, however.

There's zero chance this league ever legitimately turns a profit.

I don't think it matters with all the freedom profits going around.  Heck, cutting off Russia probably put a few billion in the Saudi's pockets.  This is like Meydan.  No gambling in the middle east, and yet they are putting huge money into horseracing, and have put themselves up there with the big boys.

What is their endgame in all of this though? They aren't going to take down the PGA by giving 51 year old Mickelson $200 million.

legitimacy.  I don't think they don't want to take down the PGA, like Meydan doesn't want to take down the Breeders Cup or Kentucky Derby.  But when you say golf, it would not surprise me if their end game is to have a worldwide tournament where all the top names come too.

I’m guessing they’re throwing around money like drunken soldiers so they can hijack the best players from the US and England, and it’s going to be tough to resist if these numbers released this week are accurate. Do they want a tour that’s bigger than the PGA and/or DP world tour? Seems like it’s on their radar at the moment.

It's not sustainable though. Just for DJ and Lefty they have already shelled out over $300 million. That doesn't even include any prize money they may win.

What channel is this even being broadcast on? I'm guessing not CBS or NBC.

The bigger issue for the PGA and DP tours is the young guys.  You are talking prize money bigger than the Masters, and guarantees that could set some of these guys set up for life.  Like the US Amateur.  23 YO, rumored to have been given $2-6 million to play in all the events.  With a minimum of $100,000 per tournament he finishes.  And his professional rounds have never been under a 71.
