For some reason I stumbled across this on youtube. Forgot about that show, but loved it back in the day. Didnt realize they started it back up again.

I know its a serious topic (sex predators), but holy shit is there some laugh out loud moments.

Two different guys walked into that house buck naked.... 

I dont usually go for reality shows, but this one was great

Went on a snowboarding trip with a buddy in Utah. When we got to the hotel room we turned on the tv to unpack and this was the show that was on. The very first dude was a teacher from my high school. Just super weird hitting that close to home. I ended up looking up more info and some of the very first episodes or seasons was Riverside county as the Riverside sheriffs were just about the only ones that were on board with the sting operation and tv component.

The dude Chris Hansen was recently on some kind of media tour and doing podcasts with a bunch of comedians and others I watch. He goes in-depth about the show, its origins, etc.

Kind of interesting to get the behind the scenes perspective. I guess the dude even has his own marital or legal issues. Just kind of wild all around.

Crazy about your teacher. I read some reddit thread the other day about people who knew people caught on that show.

Its weird. The older guys look like "oh yeah, that dude is for sure a chester". But a lot of the younger guys look like "wow, looks like the guy from work, had no idea". Guess that shows bias

Saw one the other day, guy got 25 years, and didnt even show up to the house. Crazy. They never show the texts, so you have to just wonder, but I assume it had to be child porn or something. That actually carries more time than sexual assault a lot of the time.

i've shared with a couple people here that my school had a teacher arrested back in february. he was one of the high school teachers, a guy i've known for over 40 years, and he was molesting his 11 year old daughter. it was pretty devastating news, and none of us had a clue this was happening or that he was capable of doing anything like this. his bail was over $15 mil initially. it's been a nightmare. he doesn't deny it, but he plead not guilty, and now his daughter will have to go through the horrible ordeal of testifying against him. the family and his friends are pretty pissed that he's doing this.

The last part is good. I remember when the show came out and the episode/story I mentioned from back then in 2006 or 2007 these pervs were getting off (no pun intended) as they weren't able to prosecute. They were getting busted and publicly shamed, but in the court of law nothing was happening to them.

Us too. Sadly, this had been going on for several years.

She was in my homeroom last year, so this just made things even more difficult.

My son's had a high school teacher they really liked that moved to a private school and in the second year there a girl who was flunking accused him of sexual abuse. He was arrested and was awaiting trial.

Later she recanted her story with a lame excuse that her parents were on her case for poor grades and he wouldn't change hers. Of course this came a month after he committed suicide.

The whole purpose is pre trial negotiation for lesser charges for a guilty plea. His lawyer knows he is going down but wants to prevent the DA from throwing as many charges together as they can think of to polish his resume. But he still is going to spend lots of years in prison even with a plea bargain.

Speaking of teachers and predators, I think I've told this one here before. I went to high school with this chick. Good student, cute (in high school), head cheerleader.....pretty much the cliche teenage movie character. No one saw this coming or would have even imagined.

That right there. Its very hard to get kids to talk about it. To a psychologist, to a detective, and even moreso, to a jury....

If i remember correctly, the first season or so, the cops werent even involved. They just let these guys walk away (but destroyed them on tv)

A lot of it depends where you get caught to, and what the laws of that particular state are

buddy of mine was teaching high school in a private school in washington state. kids loved him and he was really a great guy. during his second year, some girl accused him of touching her. he was put on leave while they sorted things out. she stuck to her story and he denied everything about it. in the end, they ended up releasing him from his contract at the end of the school year, and he was done as an educator. about two years after all of this happened, the girl finally confessed that she'd made up the whole thing for some stupid teenage girl reason, but by then the damage had irreversibly been done. his school abandoned him, his church abandoned him, and the district office abandoned him. there was simply no going back for him, and he paid a very heavy price for this. 

i'm so sorry to hear about your son's high school teacher. it's gut-wrenching. seems like there ought to be some kind of punishment for this girl since it lead to the death of this guy.

I know this sounds really bad but if anyone ever accused me of doing that and then recanted, I'd kill them 100%. 

They wouldn't only be hurting me but they would be hurting my wife and kids as well. There is no recovery from that.

Funny thing I just realized, I was recently decluttering and found my high school year book and remember she wrote in it haha. Something like, "Hey cutie, let's hangout during the summer. Here's my pager number....."

But yeah, she had no problem in the looks department and her younger sister was the real smoke show.

It's fucked up and really easy to do. I told the story how I broke up with a chick living with me and she thought that meant I was kicking her out of the house right then and there so she drunkingly called the cops. I'll never forget them questioning her and pressing her, "Ma'am, are you SURE he didn't touch you or lay a hand on you?" and this is a drunk and emotional early 20's chick that just got dumped. She could have easily said yes just to be vindictive and I would have been fucked. One of those life flashes before your eyes moments standing there watching it all unfold with your life in someone else's hands type of shit.

One of those life lessons on how the real world can work to where I just break up via text ever since no matter how cowardly it is.
