Something is definitely not on the up-and-up with Sutton.  He was suspended by the D-Backs in 2012 for insubordination and then let go at the end of the season for "philosophical differences."

Say what you will about Sutton's broadcast skills a mid season firing is shocking. Considering how long Mota and Gubi have hung on you'd think no matter how bad Sutton was he'd last at least through the season.

His comments don't seem to imply that there was anything else going on behind the scenes.

Gubicza is like the team mascot Clown at this point. Can’t get rid of him, everyone within the org clearly loves him. No matter how terrible he is. Sutton wasn’t at that level

He said it was a surprise and that it was more of a trial run than he realized.  So either he's pretty stupid or the Angels are kinda shady--or both.  Ha.  But my larger point is that this is now the 2nd time in his career that he's been either suspended or let go in the middle of a season.  That's pretty odd for a broadcaster.

Strange move by the Angels. There must be something more to this. I thought he was pretty decent and he seemed to be getting more comfortable at the job.

I have no problem with this. I did not enjoy his shtick and kept waiting for any evidence that he was getting better. I heard none. 

Of course, as many people learned post-Scioscia, replacements aren't always better.

I’m probably in the minority here, but I like Gubi. Heck I like Jose Mota

One plus is he had a mellow voice that didn't grate on the ears. A real broadcasting voice.

I mean that was my first thought as well, because you just don't see mid season firings for simply 'not being that great at your job.' If there was something going on I'd expect some different comments from Sutton.

Maybe Arte's just been listening to the games on mute this past month.
