Ortiz and Cruz are both steroid users. There's a reason why their numbers didn't decline at their age compared to everyone else. I have a hard time believe that neither guys "magically" stopped juicing after they got to age 40. Once a cheater always a cheater.

So every player with longevity is a steroid user? Williams? Mays? Aaron?

I'm not saying those two guys aren't, but I I don't think steroids sufficiently explain their late performances. They might help, but those two must be doing something else right.wouldn't automatically assume.

And even so, people act like steroids are pure magic. If they were then almost every player would be better and last longer, and that simply isn't the case.

I do think Jose Canseco had it right, though, that steroids can turn a good player into a star, and a star into an MVP candidate. When you take the best player in the game and give him steroids, well, you get Bonds in 2001-04. But he was already the Trout of the 90s.

I agree with this fully

Buuuut....

Id add that steroids also give you longevity. Staves off getting old, decreases injuries, etc

Beltre is a perfect example...using test kept him in his 20s, until his 40s...

To my knowledge, they still dont test for HGH.....

Aaron and Mays were taking steroids back before it was deemed illegal. Key words here are "before it was deemed illegal". No proof when it comes to Williams.
