RIP Scott Sanderson

He pitched for several teams, including the Angels and the 1984 and '89 Cubs playoff teams. Sanderson battled throat cancer and suffered a stroke last year. He was 62.

I remember Scott well. He was always known as one of the really, really, GOOD GUYS in the game. Anyone that knew him will back that up.

Very sad..he will be missed by all who knew or knew of him.

I saw him pitch in person many times for the Expos in His prime. Fantastic curve ball, tough competitor and classy guy. He was a key player for 'the team of the 80s' as they were prematurely designated in the late seventies. 

Steve Rogers, Sanderson, Charlie Lea, Bill Gullickson, David Palmer all young talented starting pitchers on a team that never quite were able to take the final step to championship level. From 1979 - 1981 they were literally a game away. The 'we are family' Pirates, Rose/Schmidt/ Carlton Phillies,damned Rick Monday Dodger  playoff winning homer three years in a row. 

Still, a great franchise to watch in my youth. Carter, Raines, Dawson, Valentine, Parrish, Wallach, Speier, amongst others of those years. And a decade later, Vladdy in his youthful prime. 

1994 was the darkest travesty/tragedy in baseball history. Check the Expos stats! Possibly an all time great season down the drain and a major factor in franchise decline.

The Expos were some 30 games over .500 in 1994 when the strike hit, best record in MLB.   That had to leave a very bitter taste in their mouths, although leaving for DC after 2004 was the ultimate face slap.

Sanderson pitched two different times here, in 1993, and again in 1995-1996 before retiring.    He actually had a decent ERA (just over 4.00) in 1995 across 39 innings.
