Dustin Garneau

I’m a chef at a sports bar restaurant in the Palm Springs area. Dustin’s  parents were in the restaurant today watching the angels game. I went out to talk to them after the server said their son played for the angels. They thought it was awesome I knew who he was and knew he hit a grand slam in yesterday’s game. His dad went on and on about how proud they were to see him live out his dream and about he was hoping for a backup catcher gig when they break camp. 

 

Not that crazy just thought it was cool and I would share. Cool to see parents support/be so proud of their son like this.

Did you ask them to explain their son's career 0.0 fWAR? Do they expect him to improve on his BABIP? While you're at it, did you ask them about his sQuatZ rating and GritZ?

Or you could have just said to them: 

"One word: MATHIS."

Pretty good battle for back up C job....Smith has gotten a lot of time, you wonder if they want a good look at him....Garneau and Briceno in the mix too...

It makes the most sense for the Angels to roll with Lucroy/Smith at the bigs and Garneau/Briceno in AAA. No need to risk our catching depth by trying to pass Smith through waivers since he’s out of options, no sense burning a 40-man spot on Garneau now when there isn’t a need...

But I have been impressed by Briceno last season and Garneau has always been a decent catcher so I hope we get a chance to see some contributions from both this season as well. Eppler’s been good at finding productive cheap catchers.
