Is Kole Calhoun REALLY going to start in 2019?

I remember arguing with someone at least the last offseason it not two prior that he was showing some alarming signs and was trending downward in many ways.

I felt 2016 was an outlier year for him and if you take that year out of the equation now, his decline is incredibly linear across the board.

In order from ‘13 , his first year of significant playing time.

BA: .282, .272, .256, .244, .208

OBP: .347, .325, .308, .333, .283

SLG: .462, .450, .438, .392, .369

OPS: .808, .776, .731, .725, .652

OPS+: 128, 123, 104, 96, 80

WAR (‘13 omitted): 4.1, 3.0, 2.1, 0.7

2016 aside, he’s taken a step back on every measure every year, except for the OBP bump back up in ‘17.

All of that said, I’m optimistic that Reed helps keep him on track this season - I could see him having a decent, stable .250/.325/.400 season just as likely as him having another awful season, or him having a career year. Either way, hopefully Adell is close to MLB-ready.

a big chunk of that decline was related to increased at bats vs. lefties.   put him in a platoon and he'll be ok.  not great but solid.
