The Angels filled their catching void by agreeing with veteran Jonathan Lucroy on a one-year deal on Friday night.

Lucroy, 32, spent last season with the Oakland A’s, hitting .241 with a .291 on-base percentage. Lucroy is best known for his work behind the plate, including handling pitchers.

The deal, which was not announced by the Angels, will pay Lucroy a reported $3.35 million, with incentives that could lift the value over $4 million. The Angels will need to make a corresponding 40-man roster move before making the deal official.

The Angels made a two-year, $19-million offer to Wilson Ramos, who turned it down to sign for the same amount with the New York Mets. The Angels also had interest in Yasmani Grandal, who reportedly turned down a four-year, $60-million deal from the Mets.

Lucroy is a two-time All-Star, in 2014 and 2016, with the Milwaukee Brewers. Since the Brewers traded him, he has played for the Texas Rangers, Colorado Rockies and A’s.

Lucroy has a career .277 average with a .337 on-base percentage.

The Angels had just two catchers on their 40-man roster, Jose Briceño and Kevan Smith. Briceño made his major league debut last season. Smith, a better offensive catcher than Briceño, had a .348 on-base percentage in 171 at-bats last year with the Chicago White Sox.
