Just how big was this upgrade offensively?

I wonder when the last time anyone upgraded their offensive so drastically at the September deadline?

Per Baseball Reference, our Top 5 OPS and WAR guys before and after yesterday:

Top OPS Then     Top OPS Now
Mike Trout 1.126   Mike Trout 1.126
Andrelton Simmons 0.787   Justin Upton 0.904
CJ Cron (non qualifier) 0.771   CJ Cron (non qualifier) 0.771
Yunel Escobar 0.730   Brandon Phillips 0.753
Kole Calhoun 0.717   Yunel Escobar 0.730
Luis Valbuenna 0.715   Kole Calhoun 0.715

Top WAR Then     Top WAR Now
Andrelton  Simmons 6.4   Andrelton  Simmons 6.4
Mike Trout 5.8   Mike Trout 5.8
Cameron Maybin 1.6   Justin Upton 5.0
Kole Calhoun 1.4   Kole Calhoun 1.4
Martin Maldonado 1.3   Martin Maldonado 1.3

Cowart+Pennington WAR = 0.5 (add in Epsinosa's -1.5) and the total is at -1.0

Phillips WAR = 1.1

So if you we added 3.4 WAR in LF and 2.1 WAR at 2B or 5.5 WAR total.

Who knows if these guys will work out but considering what we gave up, I think this is genius level stuff that Eppler pulled off.

Besides Cron, Trout is currently a non-qualifier too. Hopefully no more stiff neck problems and he'll have enough PAs at the end.
