Well, he didn't want the 6th year for Beltre but was perfectly happy trading a valuable piece to get 4 years of Vernon Wells, so he isn't without blame.

Beltre underachieved for the Dodgers until his last year where he tore it up. Then did nothing for the Mariners. Had a nice year with the Red Sox. How the hell cohld anyone predict he was going to do this? I didn't want him either

I do remember being one of the few that would have happy signing him for 5 or 6 years, knowing how tough Safeco was on power hitters at that point.   The per year cost ended up being less than Wells' per year cost at that same point.

But yes, it is ancient history.

So glad to see him finally retire hopefully after this season, and stop destroying the Halos!
