The Angels in the past have reached in the first to save money for prep players in the 2nd and 3rd round.

This year, Adell's upside was too much to ignore. So they won't be saving any money with their top overall pick. 

My guess is they'll grab a collegiate starter in the second round that'll be ready for AA next year.

Adell is exactly the kind of player I was hoping the Angels would draft.  I really wanted a pitcher, but at #10 I am glad they went for a high upside HS player and not some college guy that would plateau in AA.

I liked the profile I read about him. Defense is supposedly good if I recall correctly. If he were available I think the Angels would definitely pick him up. They have to replace Simmons one of these days if they don't extend him.

According to Baseball America's top OF's in the country, Adell is #1 considering Lewis got drafted as a SS and will stick there according to the Twins.

Totally worth the risk. Grew up an Angels fan.

Mike Witt was his pitching coach in high school. SoCal High School and UCLA kid. Like the pick and the whole draft so far.
