What's up with Calhoun?

Chuck

Calhoun is always hot or cold -- he just doesn't really follow a pattern so it doesn't show up like it does with someone like say Cron who is a notoriously slow starter then seems to rake from June on before cratering in Sept.  Look at Calhoun's career splits and you'll see he's fairly consistent month to month -- but if you look at his splits on a yearly basis you'll see some noticeable ups and down from month to month.

Calhoun is being Calhoun.

Of his three K's yesterday, two were caught looking at pitches that definitely weren't strikes and the third was swinging at a pitch that he couldnt take a chance on, given how poorly the ump was calling balls and strikes. Even the Houston announcers were commenting on the bad strike zone yesterday, especially on those first two Ks..

Personally, I think we should really consider moving Albert back to #5. He looks the worst he ever has at the plate, notwithstanding his clutch HR yesterday. While he struggles, Trout gets almost nothing to hit, if men are on base.

Maybe Escobar, Trout, Calhoun, Cron, Albert..............

Can we stop it. It's a slump in a long season in a long career. It happens to everyone.

When the slump will end is anyone's guess. He could be 4-5 tomorrow and 2-3 the day after that. Don't move him because of a bad week or we could miss the great week that follows it. Playing the best lineup or the best order from yesterday doesn't help you win tomorrow.

Dude had an 11 pitch at bat and had 2 or 3 pitches that were mistakes that he only fouled off. Fortunately Trout and Pujols finally broke through and got those runs in.

Time for a day off.

The Houston announcers were giving him credit for that AB, making the pitcher work leading to the Pujols jack.

There is no player in the league that would make teams pitch to Trout

The Astros pitched to Trout last night and he drove in a run right before Pujols moon shot. And pitching to Pujols was doubling down on stupid since first base was open. I doubt the Astros make that mistake again.

Maybe a tandem of Harper or Bryant and you have pitchers second guessing on pitching to Trout. With no help behind Albert and his inability to outrun the slowest of infield plays, he is going to see pitches he can put wood on. Trout, not so much.

In the previous 20 games before his 56-game hitting streak began, Joe DiMaggio was hitting .194 with 1 home run and 7 RBI. For him that was a significant slump.

Calhoun has nearly as many strikeouts in April as DiMaggio did that entire season. Please, be sensible with your examples.

Oh no doubt that was a great at bat and the strike 3 call on the 11th pitch was as borderline low as it could get.

Was just suggesting that maybe he's pressing and just needs a breather. He had a couple pitches he could have murdered in that at bat as well.

And Calhoun only has 1 more K than Trout this season so what's your point?

Obviously from your response you don't understand it at all so let me dummy it down.

Joe DiMaggio, HOF center field, playing one of the greatest streaks in any sport cannot be compared with journeyman right fielder Kole Calhoun regardless of slow starts.

Calhoun passed DiMaggio's career strikeout totals over 2 years ago after only about 300 games played. They are not comparable players in any way.

Simple enough?
