Tower of Power members struck by train

Drummer David Garibaldi and substitute bass player Marc Van Waginingen were struck by a train at Jack London Square in Oakland as they were crossing the street to Yoshi's jazz club, where the band was scheduled to perform tonight. One is said to have internal injuries.

Report by band leader Emilio Castillo sent out to fans on Facebook:

"I was at the hospital last night and saw David but Marc was in intensive care and I wasn't able to see him. Dave's head and face were pretty swollen and bruised but he was lucid and expected to recover. Marc came through surgery well; his internal bleeding was stopped and they were waiting for him to stabilize in order to do further testing. The doctors were cautiously optimistic. We appreciate the responses and prayers from our former bandmates, friends, and fans and we all remain hopeful and in prayer."

Report from someone who has spoken to David Garibaldi.

I just spoke to David and he is doing as well as can be expected. He said it all happened so fast that he can barely understand it. The good thing is he will recover. He has a few broken bones and is waiting to hear from doctors what the next steps are. He asked me to tell everyone he'll be fine and appreciates everyone's concerns. He said Mark the bass player is in worse shape than he is, but will be OK as far as he knows. Please keep them in your prayers. It was great to hear his voice.

Didn't their mom teach them to look both ways before crossing?

Doctor 1: How's he doing?

Doctor 2: We were seeing signs of recovery. BP was improving, swelling reduced. But...

Doctor 1: No...

Doctor 2: Unfortunately, yes. Someone made a joke on the Internet. It wasn't even that funny.

Doctor 1: Have there been any thoughts and prayers?

Doctor 2: Some, but not nearly enough. He's destabilizing.

Doctor 1: When will people learn?!?
