Marte is one of our best hitters. It makes no sense at all to sit him down.

Lincecum probably needs to be throwing harder than this to be good. His success came almost exclusively in the 92 and above range. He seems to be sitting around 89 now.

Also everytime a broadcaster talks about velocity being overrated, they are full of shit.

No they're not. Greg Maddux was a stud for years, hitting 88-91 MPH with his fastball.

There are exceptions but they are just that. There is a very strong correlation between fastball velocity and success. There are only a couple of starters in all of baseball with an average fastball velocity below 90 who have been any good this year.
