I remember the Dodgers thinking they cracked this code by overpaying free agents but for shorter terms.  That led to Furcal being a $13 million a year player many years ago and Andruw Jones getting 2 years and about $36 million, he was awful.

It's just a case of perception not matching up with the current reality.  Yeah of course these announcers will say things like Albert is dangerous and things like that.  For so many years he terrorized the NL Central, these announcers have seen him hit how many HRs against the Pirates? At least 40...

 

But the current reality is he is a shell of his former self.

Even if a logical reason for Pujols leading the league in GIDP is because he is a contact hitter who comes up with men on base, how does one explain the team as a whole leading the league in GIDP?

By the way, I wonder how much further ahead they would be in total DP if they counted bone-head plays like Escobar thinking there were 2 outs when there is only 1?

Look at the number of singles they hit and look at how slow the parade of RH hitters in the lineup is. What I mentioned for Pujols goes for most of the lineup to a lesser extent.
