Current Angels team reminds me of the 2005-2007 Lakers

Both teams had the best player in the world, and both team sucks, the Lakers were wasting Kobe's prime as the Angels are wasting trout's

however, with basketball, all you need a a couple of pieces (bynum and Gasol), but in baseball, i just don't see anyway the Angels can become great in the near future.

The Lakers won three titles in a row from 2000-2002 and imploded in the 2004 finals (to be fair Detroit deserves credit but the Lakers were unraveling) because their top two players couldn't co-exist.  They had Malone/Payton in 2004 but both of those guys were fine with their roles and weren't getting by on what they did years before.  Even though the Lakers weren't going to get fair value for Shaq after the 2004 season they still brought in Odom in the trade who was a part of 2 more titles.  Not really seeing the parallels here.

And as mentioned, it's easier/quicker to build an NBA contender if the team has the money and the smarts.   The Lakers currently have plenty of the former to spend, but questions abound about the latter (especially with Jimmy Bob).

This Halos rebuild/retool/whatever it is just became a 3 year one at least.

lakers won titles, sucked for a few years then won more in the Kobe era. It's looking like we'll be competitive for a few years, suck for a few years then trout will leave. What a time to be a fan.

Oh I remember, Kobe was doing all the work and the big fat overpaid declining guy next to him couldn't hit free throws. I do see the comparison.
