What about Ortega?

but but his obp?

Oh I agree, I'd like to give Choi and Ortega both sufficient playing time until Nava is able to return.

I don't think Gentry is safe either, dude hasn't even stolen a base and that was supposed to be one of his assets to the team, but if he goes our bench starts to get lefty-heavy.

It's a tough one. Choi brings the possibility of a high OBP, but When building a bench you need options and Ortega checks a lot of boxes. Good defender, can play all 3 positions, good arm, good speed, left fielder and I'm assuming can lay down a bunt if a sacrifice is needed late in a game.

I would start Nava over Ortega, but that's cause I think if Nava is playing at his career norm then he is a starting left fielder that could slot very nicely in the two hole (tdawg you're welcome). I'd carry a bench of Ortega, Gentry, Soto, Pennington with Cron as the DH.

I don't think guys like Gentry or Nava have quite the same vet appeal that guys like Iannetta had either.

I'm curious to see how quick of a hook Eppler has with guys like Nava/Gentry/Choi on his roster. One gripe I had about Dipoto is it seemed like he really held on to guys he acquired when they struggled.

For half a season, big deal. Perez was completely unproven and Iannetta had a history of being a productive major leaguer and was coming off a very good season.

I'm sorry, what are we discussing here? Because I'm talking about the chances of Sosh giving Ortega a starting shot in LF.

Which for the record I'm entirely down for.

He only has 8 official AB'S. I would rather have Choi's walks over Cron lack of production

If Cron doesn't break out his current slash in another 30-40 at-bats I think the team needs to consider a demotion. Maybe after the Arlington and Milwaukee trip. If that ballpark doesn't get him going...

A .423 OPS after 70 PAs from one of our supposed better hitters is starting to push beyond the small sample size limit. One bright side to Cron is he seems to be walking a bit more often.

So then my post still stands. He gave Perez the starting job.

Okay but wasn't that after an injury to Iannetta as I recall? And he used a platoon even after Iannetta came back I think.

I just don't see him getting a starting job and it's a shame.
