Most Biblical scholars now agree it was Elhanan, who was known for his size and strength, who actually defeated Goliath.  Of course the Jews had to  change the story so that the weak David (who represented the average non-athletic Israelite) was the victor.  It’s similar to having to hear about how great Sandy Koufax was.  *rolls eyes*
