Looking forward to seeing Ward and Hinshaw progress.

Ward should be in San Berdo this season and I may get a lot of time to see his first half. He destroyed rookie and low A pitching so this is going to be his first test, the beginning months of the season in desert ball doesn't provide the hitting opportunities that the mid and late season does because of cooler weather and winds.

I had Jewell as my sleeper last season. I guess he is Top 10 now after all the moves.

High A is just the right level to see if a prospect has something. Talent starts to show itself. One of the things I love about the California League.

Frank (Chicago, IL): Is R. Baldoquin a prospect or a suspect to you?

Bill Mitchell: Roberto Baldoquin is the 21-year-old Cuban infielder that the Angels signed last winter for $8 million, resulting in a penalty of nearly the same amount for exceeding their international bonus pool. He reported late for spring training due to visa issues and then suffered a number of injuries throughout the season that had him spending a significant amount of time in the training room. In addition, Baldoquin experienced some of the normal adjustment issues for Cuban players coming to the United States for the first time. Give him a mulligan for his first season, but scouts don’t see a special talent that made it worthwhile blowing up the international budget. He’s in the Prospect Handbook but obviously outside the top 10.

Baldoquin was probably the only dude they scouted. Probably watched him play one game and he went 3-3 and made a sick looking play and were like "this is our guy".

The minor league system is a complete joke.  Not that that's a surprise to anyone, but, man, it's still sad.
