10/13/15 Cards @ Cubs NLDS game 4 (Lackey vs Hammel)

Makes you wonder where this franchise would be if Moreno had gone after Epstein the way he went after Pujols during the 2011 off-season and gave him complete control. Pretty sure Albert never would have been here, Scioscia wouldn't be here. Hamilton never would have been here. Epstein & Maddon >>>>>>> Moreno & Scioscia

I mean geeze. They didn't even win to the first wild card team. They got punked out by the second wild card team.>>>

Yeah Tank...but in the last weeks of the season, the Cubs beat up on STL and PIT...and then they beat up on both of them some more in the post season.

They built all the confidence they needed to compliment the talent and skills that they developed over the season.

Bunch of scary good young kids putting it all together at the right time.

Baker and Maddon both took the Cubs to the NLCS in their first season there.

And that's where the comparison ends.

Baker managed teams with experience and talent, yet could never get beyond one WS appearance and blowing that one plus the 2003 Cubs NLCS meltdown.

Plus his teams generally declined as he stayed at each stop longer.

Maddon built the Rays from the ground floor basically, and took a young Cubs lineup with some solid pitching experience and led them to the NLCS right away.

Baker sat back and let his team play with little feedback or change.

Maddon is innovative, and yes the pitcher batting 8th may have paid huge dividends yesterday.

Baker is stoic.

Maddon is focused, but also has fun.
