I wrote awhile back that I wish we had King Conger still with the team. Someone retorted some stats - that were still better than Iannetta...that Conger still wasn't that good.

 

Saturday - his BA is at .254 - he's hit 2 ding dongs and is 3 of 4 with 5 RBI.

 

How many RBI Iannetta have in the last 6 games? (The answer is 2) 

 

Why is Conger hitting so well? It's because HE'S PLAYING...

 

This is just another example how Scioscia mismanages rosters - especially his position - Catcher.

 

So while Conger will be on a playoff roster - Iannetta and his sub.200 BA will be golfing...and Mike Napoli can look at his World Series ring - while Jeff Mathis can look at nothing.

I like Tropeano and Perez over Conger who has a 4% caught stealing percentage.

 

Perez has a 42% caught stealing percentage.

 

Tropeano a 3.00 ERA

I loved Conger as a person, super great with the fans. He is not a very good baseball player.

Would I like him to magically reappear on this team? Sure, he's better than Perez. But is he worth more than what the Astros gave us for him or would I reverse that deal if I could? Hell no. We downgraded our backup catcher and got a pretty good pitching prospect in return.

 

Also "Ianada" has a .775 OPS since May 1 and is rated as one of the best pitch framers in baseball this year. We gave Conger plenty of chances to prove that could be him and he never gave us enough offensively to be anything more than a backup. Your Scioscia mismanagement argument also looks ridiculous given the Astros have hardly used him.

OPS is below Aybar and Giavotella at .652

 

Conger's OPS is .860

 

"Framing"....isn't that why Jeff Mathis continued to play over Napoli? Or was it that he handled the pitchers better?

 

Slugging?

 

How about .340 to .508?

And again, Conger is on pace for fewer at bats this year than he had in each of the two years before, where he sucked massive taint.

Off-topic here, but when I got MLB The Show 15, the first thing I did was trade Iannetta to the Astros for Conger. What's funny is that I think the game felt like I was giving away too much. I even got Colby Rasmus as part of the deal. Thanks.
