A Norwegian cruise ship lost power when a “rogue wave” smashed windows on the bridge as it sailed in the North Sea with 266 passengers aboard Thursday.

The cruise ship Maud, en route to England, lost its ability to navigate after its electricity went out, the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said, according to Reuters.

A spokesperson for the Danish Joint Rescue Coordination Centre said the “situation is under control” and the ship is being steered manually from the engine room, though it can’t navigate.

This is where some old passenger that was in the merchant marines nabs an ornamental sextant off the wall along with a chart and teaches the Google Captain how to navigate.

At 17:47 on January 2nd (JST), a Japan Airlines plane and a Japan Coast Guard plane collided at Haneda Airport (Tokyo). A fire broke out on a JAL plane and it was completely burnt out. All 367 passengers and 12 crew members escaped. Meanwhile, only one of the six crew members of a Japan Coast Guard plane survived.

Japan takes their transportation deadly serious so there are going to be people fired for this.

The cabin crew should be commended though.  They got everyone out safely.

But I wonder who messed up here.  The tower (putting two objects in the same location), the Military plane (going where they shouldn't have), or the ANA plane (landing in the wrong place).

Communication from the air traffic controller (Tokyo TOWER) to Japan Coast Guard plane, JA722A, before the accident.

Tokyo TOWER said, "JA722A Tokyo TOWER good evening, No.1, taxi to holding point C5."
JA722A repeated, "Taxi to holding point C5 JA722A No.1, Thank you."

JA722A had to wait at a holding point in front of the runway. Although JA722A was reading back, it is suspected that it mistakenly entered the runway.

Japan Airlines suffered approximately $100 million in damage, which is expected to be covered by aviation insurance.

Death Valley National Park enters 'water era' with kayaking on limited time lake

For a limited time, visitors to Death Valley National Park can paddle out on a temporary lake after rounds of flooding rain from atmospheric rivers repeatedly slammed into California and leftover rains from Hurricane Hilary

The National Park Service said park visitors have a rare opportunity to enjoy some water activities in the driest place in the U.S. after enough rainwater created what rangers are calling Lake Manly in the Badwater Basin.

"You might think with no drain to the sea, that Death Valley would always have a lake," park ranger Abby Wines said. "But this is an extremely rare event. Normally, the amount of water flowing in is much less than the evaporation rate."
