Vargas

If that's Blanton, it's scary, but I didn't have a lot of optimism in him. Vargas is a different matter. I think our offense has been okay and we can't get 5 or 6 runs every day. I think Vargas can be a big asset, but if not, losing Morales will be a big bummer.

He is a soft-toss lefty whom the Rangers know very well. He tended to fair much better in Seattle against Texas before. At best he could give a decent 6 inning QS. At worst he gets shelled.

Rangers won't be doing much 'shelling' this year.  In fact, Papa Johns isn't going to make a lot of money with their promotion for when the Rangers score 7 runs or more deal.

If Berkman stays healthy i would not be suprised if he has comparable numbers to Hamilton in regards to OPS. berkman will get most of his value from OBP where Hamilton will get his from slugging%. You may disagree but in 2011 when Berkman was healthy he put up very impressive numbers and he has started the season(very early ofcourse) as Texas' best hitter. AJP is certainly a solid replacement for Mike Napoli. Seems to handle the pitchers well so far and he can be an everyday catcher. He wont destroy the Angels like Napoli, but he is solid...

Vargas has a career record of 4-6 against the Rangers with a 4.68 ERA and a 1.38 WHIP...(obviously he wont be facing Hamilton, Young, or Napoli)

Specifically in Arlington, he is 2-3 w/ a 4.80 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He will be pitching during a day game in a hitters ballpark

He is coming off a beat down by the Dodgers to end spring training...which I hope was just a fluke

I would be thrilled if he can keep us close and go at least 6 innings.

I don't get why Ranger homers come to Halos message boards, but whatever. Vargas should be fine, I think he will blossom as an Angel.
