Yes, Hamas is a terrorist organization that does horrific things. It's also true that the Palestinians have been under persecution and apartheid by Israel for the past seven decades. Israel has also targeted and killed countless civilians for far longer than Hamas has even existed.

Israel seems to me to be one of the more civilized places in the Middle East. And it makes for a great strategic partner for the US.

I guess I don't understand what your complaint is. Because many in the US support the right of Israel to exist, they are "beholden" to them?
