“Joe Smith is really comfortable in that ninth inning,” Scioscia said. “That frees up Grilli and (Kevin Jepsen) to be used in the seventh or eighth. Joe might give you the ground ball and they give you the strikeout. You can use those guys in the seventh and that helps us shorten the game.”

 

Just one question: Did Scioscia call him "Jeppy" in this quote? And are you sure he didn't say "Grilli-y"?
