Mr. March

What is it about Howie Kendrick that he thrives in Spring training and just seems to revert to mediocrity as soon as the regular season begins? Please put him after Aybar in the lineup.

Pitchers are working on mechanics and pitch quality in spring training. They're not really too worried about trying to win games or exploit hitters weaknesses. Not to mention a lot of minor league pitchers will pitch to get some experience in big league spring training.

Not sure how what anyone does in March is relevant in the first place.

See Blanton, Joe, 2013 spring training.

Kendrick's run at 2B hopefully ends after this season. I can't take the incessant swinging at down and away crap anymore. The only thing keeping him in the lineup at this point is his defense.

Since May 24 = .177/.222/.212/.434 OPS

ONE stinking XBH in 85 at bats in that time!

Back to hacking too: just 5 BBs in that time!

Aybar looks like Babe Ruth next to Kendrick!

Kendrick looks like Ibanez next to Aybar!

Take your pick!

Time for this lineup:

Calhoun

Trout

Pujols

Hamilton

Cron

Iannetta/Conger

Aybar (.762 OPS vs Kendrick's mediocre .700)

Kendrick

Freese (TWO stinking HRs so far and 15 lousy rbis with a .577 OPS)

Your definition of mediocrity is pretty darn high. His production won't be easily replaced.

Yeah, he's still at the top of my list of guys that will be under appreciated as a player by many Angels fans until he's gone.

Howie has slumpoed badly in the month of June: .176 AVG .236 OBP .413 OPS

This appears to be when he's used a lot at lead-off where he not succeeded at all this season (.224 .308 OBP .532 OPS in 14 games)

He not a patient hitter and he's not suited to be put in that type of position.  He needs to be batting 6 - 8 where he's had his best career OPS stats....786, .804, and .847 respectively.  People need to be resigned to the fact there is not a lot of available to replace the numbers/defense Kedrick can provide but he needs to be put in a position to succeed.  At this point, your best line-up is:

1) Calhoun

2) Trout

3) Hamilton

4) Pujols

5) Aybar

6) Kendrick

7) Cron

8) Freese

9) Ianetta/Conger

Why is there so much mediocre thinking going into this post? Is it just you are too lazy to look up his career numbers or just trolling because you found the opportunity to bag on a player?

Career by month

March/April

.295 .347 .455 .802

May

.260 .302 .376 .678

June

.292 .334 .402 .735

July

.316 .355 .451 .806

August

.306 .338 .446 .784

Sept/Oct

.277 .307 .420 .727

This year his month by month totals

April

.296 .382 .417 .799

May

.284 .339 .394 .733

June

.176 .236 .176 .413

Gee, which is the outlier from all the known statistics we have on Kendrick? Maybe just the last 25 games.

Kendrick is having a bad stretch of games. He did not disappear after Spring training or start off slow like the OP states. He is just in a slump, that's it.
