That Santiago can potentially fill both the lefty and multiple inning roles in the pen makes this the best option anyway. If we only use 6 different starters that would probably be the lowest number in the league.

A part of me almost wishes they would send Santiago down to AA to work on his issues with control there for a couple starts rather than send him to the pen where he won't be used the same way.  I don't think he'll get Wally Pipped by Shoemaker, but there is little doubt Santiago to the pen over Maronde is a massive upgrade.  Doc referred to Maronde as being broken, I don't know if that's the best way of describing it but he's definitely not a MLB quality pitcher right now.
