Jepsen always presents a fake mound presence like he is the best closer in the world and then just falls flat at some of the most critical moments in the game. Good fastball, inconsistent in-game mentality. He needs a change of scenery.

"These guys are better than they showed tonight," Scioscia said of the relievers, who ranked third in the Majors in ERA during Spring Training. "They've been throwing the ball well all spring, they have good arms. They didn't get it done tonight, but they're better than this."

Reminder: this is Jepsen's 13th year with the organization.  13th.  That's crazy.  I wonder if it really is a situation where Scioscia just loves the guy? We've been through multiple general managers, farm directors, pitching coaches, etc during those 13 years, yet Jepsen and his mediocre-at-best numbers remain.

I can't honestly tell you who is more frustrating, him, or the GM and/or the coaches who don't see him for what he is?

It is the bullpen alone that should keep Dipoto from gaining an extension.

Relievers are the most volatile players in baseball barring a select few; what the hell is Dipoto supposed to do about us developing pretty much zero top tier bullpen guys in the past what.. five years?

If you look at the teams with good relief pitching, it's pretty much always random guys from their farm system that can't hack it as starters but still have good stuff and develop their relief game.  We have what, Kohn, Salas, Jepsen, Shoemaker?  Thank god we were able to trade for Frieri and grab Joe Smith or else things would be looking ultra bleak.  Hopefully guys like Alvarez pan out soon, but I can't blame this on Dipoto.  You can't sign 7 bullpen guys on the FA market.  At some point you have to develop some guys that can actually get the job done.

Well in all fairness, Kevin Jepsen is better than a 67.50 ERA....probably
