Dipoto's comments on Blanton

Jerry Dipoto's statement regarding Blanton. "It’s a mistake on my part, there's no one else to blame, I made the call on signing Joe. But at least I didn't trade for Vernon Wells."

I say good on him!  It was a bad signing and he owned it.

Now ...

Let's turn the page!

I don't think anybody ever thought others were involved in Blanton's signing.

Point is, if Blanton was the Blanton most of us, even the detractors thought we were getting last year, we would NOT be having this discussion and website party today.

What would everyone have preferred?

Option 1 - 1 year of abysmal Blanton, 1 year of no Blanton

Option 2 - 2 years of 4.50 ERA Blanton

Arguably, I think it is better that it turned out the way it did.

Who knows if we would have made all of the pitching moves we did if we were planning on having him as a starter this year.

Frankly, I would have liked to have had one year of 4.50 ERA Blanton.  I wasn't a huge fan of the contract, to be sure, but I thought that Blanton was going to provide us with pitching of a reasonable standard for a back-end starter.  I'm sorry - for his sake, for the team's sake, and for ours - that it didn't work out that way.

It is done.  I give him props for the blame.

I won't bring the signing of Blanton up again.

I agree, mt. What is done is done, and Dipoto took accountability, even if there were more that were involved. I have a ton of respect for him. The past is the past, no need to harangue on it anymore. I am excited for this season to get going, and I am optimistic and liking what I have seen so far. Sosh looks invigorated, the guys look ready, let's play ball for real now.
