Is this a good trade?

It is? How many years of club control does the club have of Trout? Three, right? Maybe we should just trade him! Who cares what he will be like four years from now?

Who cares what he will be like four years from now, if he's a free agent and we can't/don't want to keep him. We get nothing for him then.

He's at that age when most hitters (especially power hitters) are at their peak. So, essentially, what you see is what you get. That's not a knock on Trumbo, it's just stating the obvious. To get two cost-controlled (for the next five years!) left-handed (!) pitchers who should only get better (Skaggs is only 22) and should be able to get Fielder and Cano (whom we will face 38 games per year combined) out is a win. How much of a win depends on the continuing development of the pitchers in question. It could be a HUGE win.

Yes. We were only guaranteed 3 years of Trumbo's service. The rest of his career may be great but it wasn't for sure that it would be for us. Just as much as it's not guaranteed that the rest of his career will be with the Diamondbacks. Who knows, he may sign with us in 3 years anyway.

Also, Trout has 4 years left of club control and the two pitchers we got have a combined 10 years.

I think it was a good trade not great , It all depends on how these two lefty's pan out. With the Hamilton and Pujols contracts this is the way we will have to go for awhile. I only hope Pujols and Hamilton get back to some form of their former selves. If they do we could do well but we need pitching. Trumbo had good power but those slumps killed me and most of his homers came when we really didn't need them. We can find another bat hopefully one that plays better defense. Left handed pitching is harder to come by.
