Take a look around the league. SS is not pretty. Aybar will have good trade value and I don't think it would be tragic to plug Romine into the 9 spot everyday.

 

Exactly, Aybar is an above average SS in an offseason where there is 1 viable FA starting SS and even he is suspect (Johnny Peralta). Aybar is a good bat to have in the lineup, but this offense will go as Trout, Hamilton, and Pujols go. 

 

How about Aybar to Cards for Jaime Garcia, Ryan Jackson, Keith Butler? Garcia is essentially Vargas, but cheaper, younger, and slightly better. He is of course coming off an injury, but I think we should consider him as a #4 starter. Jackson could platoon with Romine at short and Butler would slide into our pen.
