Angels Shortstop Tommy Field Breaking Out

I agree. Field reminds me a bit of David Eckstein, actually, and is a bit of a sleeper. He'll never be a star, and probably won't be more than an average regular or good bench player, but he was a nice pick-up and could hold his own as a starter for a year or two.

What?  What makes you think he can be a succesful MLB shortstop with the pedigree of Eckstein?

Truth be told I'll take Andrew Romine over Tommy Field.  He's an even better defender and is faster.  Admittedly, Tommy Field is a better hitter than Andrew is and can reach base more often, but when you're looking at crappy MLB hitter vs crappy MLB hitter, you don't go looking for some magical theorum that answers all your problems.  You just choose one that has at least one tool that would transfer over.  For Romine, it's speed and defense.

I know for a fact that even if Andrew Romine doesn't hit at the Major League level, he'll field his position, get sac-bunts down and be a solid pinch runner. Can't say the same for Tommy Field.
