Just returned from a two-day work trip to Ely, NV. It was 108 when we pulled out of Las Vegas Tuesday afternoon. The next morning it was 44 in Ely. Elevation is just under 7,000 feet. Highs in the upper 80s.

118 today and tomorrow is supposed to be hotter.

76 is the expected high today.  But I see next Saturday may get to 87.  I think I can deal with it.

I worked for Kennocott Copper a couple of summers near Ely (actually in McGill). The mill is gone now, and the railway that used to feed it now hosts some classic trains and a museum. Nice area really, even though it looks really desolate from the highway. There is some awesome trout fishing in the back country and lots of old but well preserved mines and ghost towns.

We are actually 6 inches below normal this year.  We got about two today though so that should help.  Tons of thunder and lightning all day.

So, silly me.  Decided to get out of the heat.  So headed to Santa Monica.  Everyone should get out of my lawn.  Too many people there.  But at least it wasn't scorching.  The fires in Sand Canyon pretty much overcast Santa Monica completely.  It's funny because the tourists thought it was the smog that pretty much blanketed the day. 

But from the pier, that was the reflection off the sea.

We have been running 5-7 degrees above normal (about 110-112) and it doesn't seem to be letting up. Two of our providers had to leave this morning, as they have a home near one of the wildfire areas in SoCal.

The humidity rolled in this week. Heat index in the mid 130's everyday. Gold Bond is a necessity from now til at least October.

The wife and I are doing a little trip before baby number 2 arrives and we are off to Seattle for a few days and then Alaska for 4.  The high while we are in Alaska is 68.   I'm excited to get away from this heat and give my AC a week off.
