Blanton was moved to the bullpen on July 23rd.  

 

It was against Minnesota on July 23rd that Frieri got blown up for 5 ER in a third of an inning after a fairly lengthy stretch of dominance.  

 

Since then Blanton has been throwing up zeros, while Frieri has a 20 ERA with opponents hitting .500 off him.  

 

The mounting evidence can only lead us to one conclusion...

Frieri needs to start utilizing a 2 seam fastball and develop a fringe-average slider. Until then, we'll probably keep seeing this.

frieri came to spring and thought he would try to add a pitch to his repertoire. Doesn't work like that for closers. Not enough appearances to get that to develop.

It's like hoping that Trumbo can develop plate discipline as the season goes.
