Just goes to show you how dumb and set in their ways MLB owners have been over the years.

I think it just reflects how all sports leagues went from basing their revenue off of ticket sales and game attendance before the existence of cable TV to realizing the benefits of local TV deals as they have been for the last 30ish years. Even the NFL had the Rozelle Rule which barred games from the home TV market if they weren't sold to close to capacity. Today only the NHL is really focused on attendance as the cash cow. It's why hockey teams will forego rebuild when they have any chance of those 2 extra home playoff paydays (in which the players aren't even getting paid) even when they know they have no chance of winning it all
