World Series champion Troy Glaus has been hired to be the next Buchanan High baseball coach, the team announced Friday. Glaus replaces Brad Fontes, who resigned in June citing health issues. “Troy Glaus is a tremendous hire for Buchanan High School,” athletic director Kory Anderson said. “Troy brings a lot of knowledge, experience, and excitement to Bears baseball. We couldn’t be more excited.” Glaus was in Major League Baseball for 13 seasons after he was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in 1998.

He helped the Angels to the 2002 World Series title when they defeated the San Francisco Giants in seven games. Glaus drove in eight runs, including three home runs on his way to being named most valuable player of the series. Glaus was a four-time All-Star and a two-time Silver Slugger Award winner. He belted 47 home runs to lead the American League in 2000, and finished with 320 in his career. He retired after the 2010 season. Clovis Unified said Glaus coached baseball in the San Diego area for Let Them Play, helping players with conditioning regimes and improving training habits. He was an assistant at North Marion High in Ocala, Florida from 2016-2019. Glaus will meet with Fresno-area media during an introductory news conference Monday.
