Because in 999 cases out of 1000, your pitcher will be covering first on a play like that.

I get that, but all his momentum was going towards 2nd base.  It would have been an easy flip to second.

Hell, the runner even stopped to jump over the ground ball.  It doesn’t matter….Sandoval wasn’t in this game after the first inning.
